West Lyon FCCLA Community Service Project: Adopt a Family

By Lydia Whalen

West Lyon FCCLA, with the help of Lyon County ATLAS found a family that needed help to buy Christmas gifts. The family had a six year old boy and a four year old girl. To get the gifts we had a spending amount on each child $50.00. We went to Target on the east side of Sioux Falls, split into two groups with one group looking for the boy gifts and another looking for the girl gifts. When looking for the girl gifts we found all Doc-McStuffins toys on sale! We got her a Doc-Mc Stuffins doll and doctor play set.

The other group got the boy a few dinosaur toys, one could walk and roar, and also they got him a cool bow and arrow Nerf toy. Once we bought the gifts at Target, we then went to the Dollar Tree for stocking stuffers. We found many things.

All in all we had a lot of fun and loved helping this family. We hope to do this many more times in the future, and we hope you will be with us next time.

About FCCLA

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through Family and Consumer Sciences education. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

FCCLA is unique in many ways among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members, and it’s the only career and technical in-school student organization with the family as its central focus.
